Just the facts Jack: Lowest point total for the Atlanta Dream for the season; tons of turnovers for the Dream - 22; DEFENSE-DEFENSE! Sky 11-0 run in the 4th quarter; Rookie (yes, I know it's ridiculous to call her this but she IS just a rookie) Elena Delle Donne scores 25 points OFFENSE OFFENSE.
Antacid moment, our Big Syl gets hammered and crumples to the floor in pain - pop some Tums and pray; 4th quarter our Syl shows what she's made of and comes back into game and makes an immediate impact; SKY win big again showing the WNBA what this team is made of - damn good players and winners! Score 67 to 56. BOO YA!
Beast of the game award goes to Elena Delle Donne with 25 points, 8 rebounds and her glorious presence on our team. "She's a gamer" award goes to Sylvia Fowles for coming back in the game. One of the best basketball broadcaster's award goes to Carolyn Peck - love her and her insight and knowledge of the game. Favorite quotes from Peck in this game: during a drive featuring Delle Donne and the ability of any team, let alone the Dream, to defend her when she pulls up to take a shot said "FORGET ABOUT IT!" as it's a done deal. She also said about Elena " I'd call her Delle DONE" when it comes to scoring! Peck described our Epiphanny Prince as the "Silent Assassin" - quietly pouring in shots in clutch situations. Regarding Swin Cash, Peck called her the "heart and soul" of this Sky squad with her leadership skills and drawing from her experience playing on winning teams. Peck is a class act and it was great hearing her do this game for ESPN - and not to count our chickens before they've hatched - she posited that the Sky have all the parts to make a run at the championship this year barring any injuries to key personnel. I believe Carolyn Peck may know a thing or two about this so I am in total agreement with her!
With this win the Chicago Sky have gone 4 1/2 games up on the closest competitor in the Eastern conference and home court advantage is looking good. For the Atlanta Dream the season is turning into a nightmare and for the Chicago Sky - it's a DREAM come true. GO SKY!!!
p.s. - two days ago the Chicago Tribune's Sports Section featured our own Sylvia Fowles ON THE FRONT PAGE - does anyone get how big this is? A female professional athlete on the front page of the sports pages in this male dominated sports town? It was a great piece and kudos to you Sylvia for breaking the testosterone barrier that is Chicago Sports...I, for one, was extremely impressed!
