With records going in of 1 & 7 and 4 & 2 - one would give the almost automatic nod to the team that was 4 & 2 to win this basketball game that was played out today in Tulsa, OK. Unfortunately for the Chicago Sky, the opposite happened and now Tulsa stands at 2 & 7 and the Sky have dropped to 4 & 3. Even rookie superstar-to-be Delle Donne wasn't her usual self scoring a mere 14 points (vs. her usual 20 or more) - and I say mere 14 points keeping in mind that most other players on any given team would consider this a fantastic game for themselves. Even having Epiphanny Prince back earlier than expected from her commitment to the Russian national team didn't help although she did contribute 13 points in this losing effort. Big Syl in the middle tried to help the cause laying in a team high 17 points, blocking shots and taking down 12 rebounds.
But the efforts of all went for naught as the Shock had 4 players in double digits and just generally out-hustled our Sky stealing balls and finding open shots in undefended areas. I can't quite put my finger on what's happened to our Chicago Sky - a team that started out the season looking like world beaters and a team that could contend for the WNBA title. Now they seem out of sync and are making careless errors in passing and fouling in unnecessary situations. It could be related to having Prince out of the lineup then back in the lineup and everyone just has to get back on the same page once again. There is way too much talent on this team to be falling apart so early in the season so let's just trust in that top-notch coaching staff and this great group of athletes to get their acts together and get back to their winning ways.
Next up - the defending WNBA Champion Indiana Fever on their home court this Saturday - an away game for our Sky but let's hope they come away with the win. We certainly don't know what has happened to Indiana this season but their record is 1 & 5 - a very slow start for the 2012 Champs. When all is said and done after Saturday's game in Indy, here's hoping the Fever's 2013 slump continues after having the Sky reign down upon them!
