GO DA Whole Ninety yards...

It's go time for so many of our Chicago area teams. First up, the Chicago Bears need to GO GO GO to the goal line and cross it many times or it may lead us into our Chicagoan's favorite sports mantra "maybe next year." Unfortunately, we also need the Packers to GO GO GO - Go and beat the Vikings so the Bears will have a chance at the playoffs.  It is very painful for so many Bears fans to have to cheer for the Packers any time - but in this case it's worth the pain. So it's time to root for DA BEARS and a little less loudly root for DA PACK.

In a couple more days, it will be time to root for the Huskies of NIU to put the heat on Florida State and bring home some sweet orange bowl hardware. I've got some Huskie blood running in my veins as I started my collegiate endeavors there so I am going to be sporting some red and black Huskie gear and cheering with my fellow DeKalb faithfuls. We also hope it reigns cats over the dogs when Northwestern's Wildcats take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in the Gator Bowl. Get out your purple and black all you Wildcat fans and alums as it's going to be a fun time in Florida for the Cats if they hound the Bulldogs. We can't forget the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame - I know there are plenty of Chicagoans who attended ND and they are as loyal a bunch as there is in the world of college alumni. The Irish will be playing for their first national title since 1988, while the Crimson Tide are trying to win their third national title in the last four seasons. The Fighting Irish hope to turn the Tide into a sea of crimson tears at this BCS Championship game.

So much football, so little time - actually we all have a little more time on our hands with the holiday season allowing so many of us to be home and watch all this gridiron action. It's all good, it's all fun and we hope all the results when it is all said and done, are that our teams went the whole 90+ yards and are bringing home their respective championships, getting in the playoffs and really capping off a football season that has brought so much joy to the fans, players, coaches, alumni and their respective athletic programs. So far so good, Bears are taming the Lions with a 10-3 lead in the 2nd quarter. Hoping this is a sign of great things to come!

And once this madness is all over - just think the new madness will begin - March madness that is....one of my favorite times of the year when college basketball takes over the consciousness of America. In my case, I am hoping that my Pat Summitt-less Lady Vols will make it to the big dance. It's been very depressing for me and many other Lady Vols faithful seeing our team without Pat at the helm for the first time in decades. Former assistant Coach Holly Warlick has been given the opportunity and in my opinion, unenviable position to fill those big shoes of the formidable and super successful Summitt. I wish Holly well in her new role as head coach...she may not need IT if she can prove she learned from the best and can produce results like the best there has ever been. GO Lady Vols...

Bears just intercepted the ball from Detroit - still up 10-3 - DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE...GO BEARS...
