I thank you my relatives and friends who feel like relatives, not just at Thanksgiving but all year long.
Thanks to our WNBA Chicago Sky Coaches Pokey Chatman and Christie Sides for being two of my favorite golf students this year and for some great tickets to your Sky games. It was fun getting to know these two fun and crazy ladies this summer - I really hope to be thankful next summer when the Chicago Sky lives up to its potential as they have a very talented and strong coaching staff and team (if they all stay healthy since this is what threw a wrench in their plans this year). GO SKY!
Thanks to Mizuno Golf for my new irons - the JPX825's - high quality, great feel, shot shaping capability, consistency...it took alot to get me out of my Pings but you did it!
Thanks to my late great friend Annette Robbins - we lost you in June after losing your battle with scleroderma and cancer - you were so much fun, such a classy lady, our golf trips were memorable as were our rounds of golf together, we shared golf, food, fun and each other's company for over 25 years...I thank you for being such a special part of my life and will miss you every day.
Thanks to my team at GolfChicago! magazine for over a decade of great writing/photo opportunities - it's been a great union since the golf show issue in March of 2001 when my first column appeared in this quality golf magazine. Keep your eye out on my next PROfile piece in GolfChicago! featuring NBC5 Sports Reporter Peggy Kusinski (a golfer, mom, sports queen extraordinaire who also gives back to the community.)
Thanks to the team at Lake Bluff Golf Club on Chicago's beautiful north shore - got to do more teaching this year with the summer golf camps and some other group lessons and appreciate the opportunity to ply my teaching skills...what a great crew working both inside and outside at this course.
Thanks to Tamika Catchings, formerly of our great state, and MVP of the WNBA Championship Indiana Fever - you are such a class act both on and off the basketball court - Can't think of a more deserving MVP and happy that you added WNBA Champion to your already impressive resume and I'm thankful I got to see you play in person several times this season and in the WNBA finals. I still say Tamika would look awesome in a Chicago Sky uniform...hint hint. I'm thankful I got to know Catchings in 2005 through our mutual friend Willye White - glad we've been able to keep this good relationship going! Tying into Tamika Catchings who played for one of the most honored coaches of all time - the great Pat Summitt of the Tennessee Lady Vols - I thank coach Summitt for her many contributions to not only women's college basketball but to women's sports in general. Coach Summitt set the bar high for her basketball team, but I believe even higher for herself....talk about a class act. Summitt had to step down due to her diagnosis of early onset dementia (she's only in her late 50's)...I will miss you Pat and am thankful I got to see you and the Lady Vols in person as you coached your second to last NCAA game at the Allstate Arena in March...still a Lady Vols fan but it will be tough to see the team without you guiding the way.
I thank you (NOT) Chicago Bears for losing on Monday night as you cost me another win in our big football pool at work - I literally just needed you Bears to win and I would have taken the pool. C'mon Bears Players and Coaches...get your acts together for the Vikings game so we can all have something to be thankful for!
