Running. A word that when it is said you see people react in an abundance of ways. Some dread even hearing the word, let alone doing it. While others really enjoy it because it allows them to clear their mind from the stresses of everyday life.
Everyone has their own passion, and I can firmly say that running is NOT mine. As my mother would put it, I only run when I am being chased. Anyway, my point is that everybody enjoys different things. What I enjoy happens to be what some people hate.
My passion, if it isn’t obvious enough, is writing. I write to clear my head, voice my opinion (even though my actual voice is probably loud enough to get that part done), and explain how I feel when I am not able to describe it verbally. I write simply because it makes me happy.
Sometimes people have a hard time finding what they are passionate about. I have conversations with people I go to school with all the time about how they don’t have a passion and don’t know what they want to study in college. It is really a common thing to be unsure of. I mean look at how many adults there are out there that still haven’t found their passion.
So my advice to all of you who still haven’t found what you love to do, is do not stop looking. Whether you are in high school or an adult, it is never okay to just settle. You deserve to be happy. How can you do this you ask? Get out of your comfort zone and try new things.
High school primarily is a time in your life where you need to branch out and find where it is you belong and what you love to do. With all of the different clubs and groups available at high schools, there is a place for everyone. So instead of sitting home watching Netflix, go get involved. You never know how much you will enjoy doing something, until you do it.
Do not let anyone keep you from doing what you love. Everybody deserves to have a hobby or passion that they enjoy, without judgement from others. I know that is easier said than done, but I promise when you are doing what you love it will all be worth it. Sorry for all you runners I singled out in the title of this post, that was me being a total hypocrite.
I had no idea I was ever going to love writing as much as I do until I joined our school newspaper. It opened my eyes to a whole new part of my life, a part that I love so much. If it wasn’t for going out on a limb and taking that class my freshman year, I would not be going into college to study what I love doing.
Just use the opportunities you have now because you aren’t always going to have them. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new, you might just fall in love with your passion.
