Artist and vintage buyer to the stars Robert Loughlin died Tuesday.
Aside from his gritty, iconic painting involving his creation, "The Brute," Loughlin was known as the ultimate vintage treasure hunter. His crowning find was a Salvador Dali painting just squatting in a New York thrift shop. Loughlin bought it for $40.
Celebrities like Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat came to Loughlin for the best vintage pieces. Warhol called him the "chairman," since he practically stocked the Factory with uber-chic chairs. If there was something extraordinary to be found at a flea market or estate sale, Loughlin could find it.
Loughlin was killed when he tried to cross a street and was struck by a car near his home in New Jersey. He was 62.
