I was expecting obscene amounts of vintage at the Vintage Bazaar -- it's pretty much in the name. But I was still completely unprepared for the onslaught of vendors, shoppers and general sensory overload experienced at the Congress Theater last Sunday. More proof that, yes, Chicagoans love their vintage. In fact, I think I was more excited by the turnout than the merchandise itself.
One slim, boho shopper recently moved from Oregon and was forced to leave a lot of her wardrobe behind. She was hard at work restocking it, eyeing a gorgeous lilac trench coat perfect for fall. Since I live vicariously through others and get my merchandise fever jollies through their spending, I'm hoping she bought it. If there's one way to get excited for fall, its buying a new coat.
As for myself, I was thisclose to buying an ivory silk handbag with printed sapphire and ruby-colored sweetgum leaves, but $48 was a little too dear. Instead, I snapped up a bright red Neiman Marcus wrap dress at the Brown Alice Thrift booth that can be worn backwards or forwards (not really, but I tried it backwards and it looks pretty snappy). I'll hopefully post photos of it soon.
It was a great way to spend the afternoon and I loved wandering around the booths seeing the enormous variety of vintage the sellers brought. It's definitely a date to keep on your calendar twice a year.
