Gotta a kid who loves to dance? You must add the Chicago Dance Festival to the family calendar. The final program line-up is set for the annual Chicago Dancing Festival, taking place at venues across downtown Chicago from August 20–25. The Festival has expanded this year to six consecutive days of dance events that are all completely free (free!).
The festival includes a variety of events -- geared mostly towards adults. However, the kiddos will love "Dancing Under the Stars" taking place on August 23 at 6:00 p.m. in Grant Park, Spirit of Music Garden (601 S. Michigan Avenue). Chicago Dancing Festival partners with SummerDance Chicago for an evening of participatory dancing as people of all ages and skill levels come together on a 4,900 square-foot, open-air dance floor for an introductory one-hour dance lesson, followed by music and dancing. This evening begins with a Polka Dance lesson by Paul Collins followed by dancing to the beats of Joe Walega and the Happy Hearts Orchestra with instruction from Ethnic Dance Chicago.
Another highlight of the "Celebration of Dance" on Saturday, August 25, 7:30 pm in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Millennium Park where everybody can join in on the fun!
