Celebrate Halloween with the Chicago Park District

The Chicago Park District has tons of great Halloween events coming up in the month of October -- many of them free or inexpensive. I'll wait here while you get your calendars. Okay, ready? Here are some family-friendly events and activities that you might want to take advantage of:


Pumpkin Patches & Halloween Parties (check the website to find one near you)

  • October 9-30 at various parks throughout the city
  • All ages, entrance fees vary from free to nominal
  • Activities include pumpkin decorating stations, petting zoos, hayrides, pony rides, inflatables, games, and more.


Halloween Special Festival

  • Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 16-17, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Kids can pick a pumpkin in the outdoor patch, enjoy the petting zoo, pony
rides, and inflatables. The brave can meander through the indoor, no-scare maze.



Costume Contest

  • Friday, Oct. 22

  • 4-6 p.m.
  • Recommended for ages 3-5
  • Admission $2

Enjoy a dance contest, inflatable jumping jack and more.

Nightmare at 63rd St. Beach House

  • Friday-Saturday, Oct.  22-23; Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 28-30
  • 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

  • Recommended for ages 10 and up

Set
in the historic beach house, this haunted house features terrifying
scenes spanning two floors.  Get in the spirit of Halloween and come in
costume.

Trails of Terror

  • Oct. 22-23 & 29-31, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.

  • Recommended for ages 8 and up; free parking available
  • Admission $10

Wind your way through nearly one-half mile of spine-tingling terror in the woods crawling with creepy characters.

Haunted House

  • Wednesday and Friday, Oct. 27 & 28, 6-9 p.m.

Experience several rooms of spooky fun in this neighborhood tradition.

Family and Teen Haunted Indoor Drive-In Movie Series

  • Thursday, Oct. 28, Casper at 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 29, Twilight at 6:30 p.m.

  • Admission $5 to each screening

Families can enjoy Casper (PG) and teens can enjoy Twilight (PG-13).  Admission includes a hot dog, beverage and popcorn.

Carnival and Haunted House

Get your face painted, bounce around in an inflatable and enjoy the party atmosphere.

Spooky Skate Party

Enjoy spooky fun inside the field house on either inline or rollerskates.

Creatures of the Night

Night-time creatures, like fruit bats, spiders, owls, and more, make a rare daytime greenhouse appearance.
