ACT prep can be overwhelming. Such a big task makes it difficult for some students to begin.
Teens tend to have busy schedules filled with sports, part-time jobs, volunteering, clubs and activities not to mention, homework. Budgeting time for studying is a must.
Last year, I expanded my tutoring business to include ACT prep. I was motivated by the fact that the entire college prep, application, and selection process was just on the horizon for my child. While researching for my workshop, I discovered a book that had amazing appeal in this tedious subject.
Up Your ACT Score: ACT, 2014-2015 Edition: The Underground Guide is unlike other test preparation books because it incorporates humor with real knowledge of what it is like to take the test. (and if you have a teen, you already understand the value of humor)
It is written by Chris Arp, a Princeton graduate and tutor at the prestgious Veritas Test Prep company in Manhattan and three high school seniors. These students, Ava Chen, Jon Fish, and Zack Swafford each scored 36 which by the way, is a perfect ACT score.
Whether you find it funny or not, the tone is exceptionally teen friendly and that in turn makes it more likely to be picked up, read, and actually used by your student. It includes tips for each section of the test: Math, English, Reading and Science, as well as how to calm your nerves and create a study plan.
Students in my workshop love the book! Recently, I was able to contact the author and he graciously answered a few of my questions. When you read his answers, you will understand why this book is terrific! Be sure to click here to read my interview with Chris Arp!
