Do You Have a Poet in Your Family? Send them to Camp!

Summer is all about camping and camps.  Bet you did not know about poetry camp.  I didn't!

The Poetry Foundation Library contacted School Zone to help get the word out about their FREE summer camps.  No experience necessary! Read on for more information.

The Poetry Foundation Library in Chicago's River North neighborhood is offering FREE three-week long summer camp sessions this July.  Teen Summer Poetry Camps I & II, for high school students from 9th to 12th grade, will be held on Thursdays throughout the month.  These camps expose teens to writing beyond the classroom- they discover new poets, respond to various works of poetry, and create their own work.

In addition, the Poetry Foundation Library is offering a one-day Junior High Summer Poetry Camp on Monday,  July 15, at 1:30-3:30pm for students in grades 7 and 8.  Young people will develop their personal creativity through storytelling  and be exposed to the limitless world of poetry.  They will have the opportunity to create their own work and strengthen their skills through analysis and discussion

The Poetry Foundation Library is the only library dedicated to poetry in the Midwest.  It's home to a collection of more than 30,000 volumes, audio, and video recordings of poetry-related materials that can be enjoyed in private listening booths and reading rooms.   Our poetry camps give young people the opportunity to take advantage of this expansive collection in an inspiring setting.

Camps are short-term and just require registration.  All experience levels are welcome and materials are provided.   The Poetry Foundation Library is located at 61 West Superior Street, Chicago, IL  60654.  Phone 312-787-7070 or click here for more information.
