The Easiest Teacher Gift Yet- A Groupon Deal for Donor’

Teachers gifts for the holidays got you stumped?  Here is an idea that will be greatly appreciated but light on your wallet.  Groupon is running a special deal to benefit

By donating $10 through Groupon, you will receive a $20 online credit to use on, thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor.  You can use your online credit on the website to fund any project of your choice including schools affected by Hurricane Sandy.  Search to see if your teacher has a project posted or just do a good deed for local schools. You are sure to make it to Santa’s Nice List!

Donor’s Choose is the brainchild of a former Bronx teacher named Charles Best who lacked funds for much needed supplies for his students.  He noticed his colleagues were in similar situations without enough money for art supplies, books, and field trips. Teachers just couldn’t continue to afford to pay for these extras out-of-pocket.

Best soon created - an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Schoolteachers post individual projects on the website, requesting funds for activities and supplies, such as museum field trips, a science-magazine subscription, and a digital camera to produce films.  Donors can contribute as little as $1.  No matter the size of their donations, they receive photos of the project, thank-you letters from teachers, and a cost report showing how each donation dollar was spent.  To support a classroom, you can make a donation of any size at

If you don’t have any teachers on your list to buy for, why not play Santa yourself and do a good deed- choose any!!

This previous post of mine has more information on and some well known celebrities involved in the charity such as Oprah and Stephen Colbert.
