Get Outside! Get to a Park- Win a Trip from KaBOOM!

I love this picture. It has been shared and passed around Facebook- but it says it all! Leave the tech toys behind and enjoy the outdoors while you can!

Let’s face it-- the best reasons to be a Chicagoan are our sports and our summers! The summer season is too short to stay inside. We need to get out and make the most of every minute of it. I get a little panicky as the calendar changes from June to July. Everyday is precious!

One of my favorite kid friendly organizations, KaBOOM! is making your play time pay off this summer.

Starting today you take part in their KaBOOM Summer Challenge – every time you visit a park you can enter to win a week-long trip for two to Washington, DC. From now until August 13 you can earn points and badges towards one of three grand prizes plus be entered to win a weekly drawing.

Weekly drawings include $250 worth of gift cards for toys, ice cream, outdoor gear, movies and much more. Once you sign up you can earn these points and badges by visiting as many playgrounds as you can and sharing a picture of them via their Tag! ap. You can even Tag! parks you visit in the burbs or on vacation.

I just read a post by fellow ChicagoNow blogger, Yoga Mom..Breaking Down Chicago Parks One by One….why not take the KaBoom challenge and send her your reviews of the parks you visit. She has given you a headstart with a list of Chicago parks to visit.

According to KaBOOM! today's kids spend less time playing outside than any previous generation in part because only 1 in 5 kids in America have a park or playground within walking distance. This play deficit is having profound consequences for kids physically, socially, and cognitively. That is why organizations like KaBOOM! are so important as they work to build more playgrounds. Last month, they finished building their 100th playground in Chicago.

Learn more at their website and support their cause. Read my recent post Chicago Needs More Playgrounds. I would write more, but I have to get outside!
