Another Reason to Love Stephen Colbert...

Another Reason to Love Stephen Colbert...

I don’t watch a lot of tv, but two shows I make time for are on Comedy Central- The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report.

Stephen Colbert is hilarious! It seems lately he is everywhere and always up to something.

I loved him when dressed in tights and a suit jacket, he danced with American Ballet Theater star David Hallberg. I could not take my eyes off his bizarre interview with Maurice Sendak. I was skeptical when he was the assistant sports psychologist for the US Olympic speed skating team in the 2010 Winter Olympics and impressed when he supported and entertained our military troops.

Stephen Colbert is great- the perfect combination of brains and humor. He makes you laugh and think! He's got Chicago ties- Northwestern University Graduate and Second City Alumni.

Now, I have another reason to like him more! He cares about education and our children's needs in the classroom. He is on the board of directors for DonorsChoose.org.

DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need. Charles Best, a New York city public school teacher started the charity in 2000 after talking with fellow teachers about funding for projects and supplies they lacked for their classrooms. In 2007, the charity expanded to serve every public school teacher in the U.S. To support a classroom, you can make a donation of any size at www.donorschoose.org.

Watch this to see Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Zac Efron, Charles Best and Stephen Colbert explain:

The "truthiness" is cuts in education funding are becoming the norm. You don't have to be part of the Colbert "nation" to help. It is unfortunate that teachers need to fundraise for their classrooms, but if you are going to have anyone in your corner to help- it might as well be Stephen Colbert.

To help some of the current Chicago area classrooms in need visit DonorsChoose.org.  Spread the word and please share this information with your child's teacher, your school's teachers, administrators, PTO, PTA, or Local School Counsel.
