A Letter To My Infertile Self

If I could write a letter to my then “infertile” self, telling her all the things I learned along the way, all my best advice, it would go something like this…

It will hurt it will take time. it will require dedication, it will require willpower, you will need to make healthy decisions, it requires sacrifice you will need to push your body to it's max there will be temptation but I promise you when you reach your goal it's worth it.

It wil hurt, but it will be worth it!

Dear [infertile]self,

As you read this you are probably in a deep dark place, wondering “why me”.

I am here to tell you…the sun will shine again.  Your butt won’t be bruised and lumpy forever.  Your stomach bloat will deflate.  You will have your life back.

And it will all be SO worth it.

I want to tell you it sucks – it’s ok to have a personal pity party [keep it short], and then stand up, brush yourself off, and keep going.

The shots are bad, but the build-up in your head is way worse, just hold your breath and go!

You will become a pro at getting your blood drawn.

Living through fertility treatments are like riding a roller coaster - constant ups and downs of emotions, you are hopeful, yet also bracing for heartache.

You will not care who has seen your crotch [pre-infertility you only had women OBGYN’s, post-fertility you will have had a male doctor get you pregnant and a male doctor delivery your baby, in a room full of medical students, and you survived both ;)]

I want you to know that you WILL overcome this, and will be stronger for going through it, both personally and in your relationship.

It will make you appreciate being pregnant or being a mom EVEN more, but with that too don’t but too much pressure on yourself for the experience or yourself to be “perfect”.
