You are not alone :)

You are now part of a secret subculture of women in society.  No it’s not a group you dreamed of belonging to, you were more forced into it, but you belong.

Did you know infertility affects 1 in 6 couples, totaling over 7 million women, yet over 60% hide the fact that they are struggling with infertility.  That is a number that has GOT to change!

You know when you are in your clinic’s waiting room, the swarms of women (and men) that come and go, there is silence, but also an unspoken bond.  You may nod your head or maybe show a half smile to one another, as if to say, I am with you, we share a commonality even though we don’t even know each other’s names.  We have walked in each other’s shoes.  We know what it’s like to wake up before the sun to get your blood drawn and ultrasound monitoring.  What it’s like to do shot after shot of medications late into the evening to help jump-start your body.

It is this silence though that is hurting those trying to overcome infertility. said it perfectly:

Thirty years ago, breast cancer was where infertility is today -- women just didn't talk about it.  There weren't countless support groups, fundraising walks, and an entire month enveloped in pink. Women battling breast cancer did so in silence and, in turn, many felt isolated and ignored. However, now because there is such an international dialogue about the disease, breast cancer receives multi-million-dollar grants each year in research funding and patients are inundated with an outpouring of support and understanding.

A similar movement is desperately needed for infertility.  It’s something that needs to start being talked about if couples going through this difficult time are going to receive the attention, treatment, and support they need.

Now let’s all be part of a new group, a movement to help un-silence infertility, I for one think it deserves a ribbon!  If you agree, pass it along!
