Masaki Araya is a 2018 Emmy nominee for his work as a second engineer under Andrew Twiss on Angela Ingersoll's "Get Happy: Angela Ingersoll Sings Judy Garland" on PBS! Both Twiss and Araya received their nominations on Monday, September 24, 2018 read by WGN's own Dean Richards.
As a live recording engineer, Masaki Araya freelanced twice for The PianoForte Salon Series at Columbia College Chicago on 98.7 WFMT broadcast live at Sherwood Conservatory of Music in Chicago, IL in 2009. Under Mary Mazurek, he assisted engineered the pianist, Maya Brodotskaya (February 6, 2009) and violin, cello, and piano trio, Trio Voce (February 27, 2009) performances.
He also second engineered Artists Lounge Live's "Judy Garland: Come Rain Or Come Shine" (starring Angela Ingersoll as Judy Garland, wife of Michael Ingersoll of Jersey Boys and Under The Streetlamp, recorded for PBS on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Arcada Theatre) and MidCoast Theatre Company's "Darin: Live At The Mercury Theater" (starring Christopher Kale Jones, star of Jersey Boys and Under The Streetlamp, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 8:00 pm & Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Mercury Theatre) under former professor & colleague at Harold Washington College, Andrew Twiss, whose credit includes the Fox hit TV series, Empire.
He filled in for engineer, Joshua Sauvageau, who is Operations Manager at WFMT, on several occasions (September 18, 2011, January 20, 2013, & November 15, 2015, June 3, 2018) to record the International Chamber Artists' Clarinet Kaleidoscope performance at St. Gregory The Great church.
As an audio documentation and producer, thanks to Jeremy Richards, his five minute audio documentary, "The Saddest Day" aired on KUOW Presents on 94.9 FM KUOW, an NPR affiliate, in Seattle, WA in 2011.
As a mixing engineer, he mixed the first gospel single by Elliott Bell called "Hallelujah" that was released on April 21, 2015. He also provided additional recordings on a track, "Rain" and was the recording engineer for the track, "In About Water", for the duo called The Fen as well as "Waves" by Of Vast Dimensions, performed by Christopher Rejman on guitars, one of the two from The Fen.
As a recording engineer, Masaki has recorded Joshua Pertler's voice over for pilot turned into feature, Mouthpiece (2015), starring LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor, Sons of Anarchy & Transformers: Dark of the Moon). Pertler, a rapper, actor & model, co-starred in The Poker House (2008), starring Jennifer Lawrence. Also, "Get Happy: Angela Ingersoll Sings Judy Garland", which was recorded live on October 10, 2017 at the Arcada Theater, aired on WTTW on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
