I hauled a china cabinet home on the CTA Red Line

Yep. I did. All by myself, because my husband was working and I was too impatient to wait for him. And because I was too cheap frugal to spring for the $40 delivery. You want proof? I'll give you proof! Well, such as I could with my phone without letting go of the china cabinet and having it run into people. Read on.

By the way, I bought it from the New Elephant Resale Shop, a new not-for-profit that makes me not miss the White Elephant too much.

  • This is so me! I hauled parts of a dresser on top of a small corolla with roap last year! I am too cheap to pay delivery as well! love it!!

  • In reply to erintheorganizer:

I'm so glad I'm not the only cheap person around here! Where there's a will, there's a way, right?

  • I was looking forward to the story after your posts this weekend. Love the photo play by play (and your collection).

  • Thanks! Now that I've done this, I can poke fun at people who say they have no way of getting (a big object) home ;)

  • You are awesome! Quite a feat, indeed (my personal best was two wood folding chairs). I love the play-by-play in pictures. The cabinet looks great in its new place, that's an impressive collection, too. Great post!

  • In reply to Weather Girl:

Thanks, Weather Girl! At least with folding chairs, you were hopefully able to cart them home without too many ropes ;) Before this, my personal best was two tall trellises which I strapped to my back, a few trees, and some vines.

  • Absolutely HILARIOUS! You made my day!

  • In reply to siblingless:

    LOL, I'm glad I did!

  • No need to miss the Brown Elephant. They're still around - in three locations: Lakeview, Andersonville, and Oak Park.

Aha--thanks. I meant the White Elephant, which had raised money for Children's Memorial before it closed. Fixing that now. Thanks!

  • You're just the best thing EVER.

  • In reply to Jenna Karvunidis:

Why, thank you! I strive to impress ;)

  • I cannot believe you hauled that on the CTA! This is why I only buy fabric! Ha ha!

  • In reply to Kathy Mathews:

Well, that depends on how much fabric you buy--admit it, you sometimes go crazy with buying too much fabric, right? ;)

  • Life in the city!
