Back when Pumpkin adopted me, she was about 6 months old, so she liked doing kitten-y things, like get into places where she shouldn't.
One of these places was a footstool my in-laws had lent to me and my roomie when we found a duplex together. It went with the mustard-colored chairs, also loaners, that we used in our living room.
I was sitting on the floor in the living room one day, doing who-knows-what, when I realized Pumpkin disappeared. I kept feeling her bat at my back, but I couldn't find her.
Then I saw THIS peering out from the footstool.
She had, somehow, pulled the bottom fabric of the footstool away to turn it into a cocoon. Her own private lair, which I can't imagine was very comfortable, but you'll find cats sleeping in tiny boxes, so who knows what they consider to be comfortable...
I enticed Punky out with catnip (ooooh, she LOVES her catnip. I've raised an addict.) and used packing tape to fix the footstool. It wasn't duct tape--I wasn't quite that redneck. I used duct tape to seal up the cracks in our front door, but not on the furniture because that would be tacky. Thankfully my in-laws were easygoing about their grandkitty's shenanigans.
Oh, and if the first picture looks familiar to you, you probably saw it on I Can Has Cheezburger. I've uploaded other pics of the kittehs, but that one made Punky FAMOUS. She got about 2 seconds worth of fame when someone added the caption, "I is digging a hole to China" (I think it was) and it became popular. ICHC sent me a permission request to use the image with someone else's caption for merchandizing purposes-- and they were going to send me a copy of the card once it was printed. This was back in 2009. Or maybe 2010. Years ago. And then Pumpkin's catnip habit hit the presses, and they wanted to disassociate themselves from her to avoid scandal. Okay, so maybe not, but I still haven't seen her picture in any of their products. Someday she'll get another 2 seconds of fame. And I'll be a proud kitty mommy again.
