Cats know when you're sad, stressed, overwhelmed, angry, or depressed.
Sometimes they don't care and will keep on meowing just to annoy you further. This is their way of teaching us how to learn how to tolerate additional stresses, kind of like military training.
Sometimes they do care. When we don't want to be touched, when we want to shut out the world, when we want to curl up in a ball and cry, they know how to sneak through our heightened emotional defenses like furry ninjas in order to unleash a loud purr-bomb.
