First Impressions of The WWE Network

First Impressions of The WWE Network

The WWE Network has officially launched (and even ahead of the 8am start time).  The brief period I've spent with it so far has been incredible.  Here's what I've figured out and what I've seen so far. (Updates to follow)

When you sign up for WWE Network it will bill you six separate times at $9.99 (plus tax) instead of the full $60 for the six month subscription.

I was able to instantly stream pay-per-views of any kind.  The WWE catalog's most recent PPV is TLC 2013.  I first pulled up ECW's Barely Legal 1997 and then Wrestlemania 20 (Chris Benoit is there with his name announced and everything).

At 8am CST the test bars went off and Vince McMahon himself welcomed us to WWE Network, a monumental revolution for sports entertainment.

The Network schedule is posted so you can see what live content is streaming when.  So far, Wrestlemania Rewind of the Wrestlemania 1 main event between Hulk Hogan and Mr. T vs. 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff was the first program to air live.  It features current and former stars discussing Wrestlemania 1 and the significance it had on the sport and how critical the main event was.  The main event is featured unedited and in it's entirety.

Stephanie McMahon appears and is reliving past memories of professional wrestling she recalls.  Being able to show her kids their grandpa as an announcer and as the "evil owner" and show some of his matches to them.  Very good promo about being able to share older fans' memories with their kids.

(side note: Apparently some users are saying the WWE website has crashed and are having difficulty streaming anything.  I have had no such issue thus far.)

WWE Countdown is about to start. The first episode is 'Top 10 Catchphrases'

As far as Raw and Smackdown replays the shows go as far back as December 2012.  There are also a few Legends of Wrestling roundtables, ECW Hardcore TV episodes, a single episode from World Class Championship Wrestling and Beyond the Ring which so far seems to only feature the Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels Rivalry DVD

UPDATE: WWE Countdown is a very fun show so far. I won't spoil the Top 10 Catchphrases but it's pretty cool.  There are definitely some censored words in the broadcast but mostly from the DX cuss festival that was the reading of USA Network's standards and practices.

Hulk Hogan will be featured on Raw Backstage Pass immediately following Raw tonight.

A John Cena feature  is being shown now showing Cena and his family discussing his life and growing up to become the WWE Superstar he is today.

This Is NXT! is starting up and introducing the entire roster with a little background on each performer.  Antonio Cesaro vs. Sami Zayn 2 out of 3 Falls match is about to be showcased. But first, an interruption by The Shield.

If you're a fan of WWF Armageddon 1999 for two VERY specific reasons then I'm afraid I've got some BAD NEWS FOR YOU!
