How Do I Find My Passion? Advice On Finding It And Keeping It Strong

How Do I Find My Passion? Advice On Finding It And Keeping It Strong
When I set out to write a children’s novel seven years ago at the age of 40, I didn’t know a thing about the craft. I’d kept journals in my youth and written more than my fair share of thank you notes and emails and logs of vacations to help recall details, but my desire... Read more »

Earth, Wind & Fire: A Race To Mackinac Video In The Making (Part 2)
WIND CHIEF’s First Race To Mackinac After a whirlwind summer purchasing and prepping our new boat, I stood on the docks on July 16th, 2011, preparing to say goodbye to my husband, my 13-year-old son and the 6 other crewmembers racing in our new boat’s first Race To Mackinac as CHIEF. The crew was provisioned... Read more »

2014 Race To Mackinac

The annual Race to Mackinac (pronounced MAC-in-awe) is sailing’s Freshwater Marathon, and this year’s 106th race marks my husband’s 4th. Twenty-six summers ago, when Mike and I were interns in Chicago riding the METRA to and from our respective parents’ homes, he confided a dream. “Before I die,” he’d said, “I want to crew on... Domestic Violence: What You Can Do To Help Someone

Domestic Violence: What You Can Do To Help Someone
If you know someone who might be in an abusive relationship, err on the side of caution and look into it. Recently, I met a woman who’s been trying to escape a situation of domestic abuse. Her scenario is eerily similar to so many in our nation. On the outside, she and her family seem... Read more »

22 Ways To Keep A Marriage Intact. Observations for newly- (and not so newly) weds.

22 Ways To Keep A Marriage Intact. Observations for newly- (and not so newly) weds.
Last week was my 22nd wedding anniversary. Twenty-two years ago I married a 22-year-old man-child, a term I jokingly use because I “robbed the cradle”: Mike was (and still is) four months younger than me. Our combined ages then (22 + 23) equal my age today (45). Multiply that number by two (90), and you’ll... Read more »

PLAN Is The New Four-Letter Word

PLAN Is The New Four-Letter Word
Hi. My name is Christine, and I overuse the phrase, “What’s the plan?” I should have figured this out sooner, but using the word PLAN sets off a firestorm in my house. I use the word all the time, and it only gets me into trouble: When my teens ask to hang out with friends,... Read more »

Whispers In The Wind. Real Quotes Heard By Real Moms.
Trust me. I couldn’t make this stuff up if I wanted to. June 10, 2013 From the 13-year-old daughter: “Remember that time you brought that Rice Krispie Treat cake into my class when I was 11? You were such a cool mom back then.” From the online banking service (via email): “Your account is overdrawn.”... Read more »

How Do You DO It All?

How Do You DO It All?
A friend I don’t see nearly enough stops me in the grocery store. “How do you do it all?” she asks, jutting a graham cracker toward her toddler’s outstretched hands. “Nora, please don’t try to crawl out of the cart.” “Me?” I say, bemused. “You think I do it all?” “Yes,” she says, smiling. “You’ve... On Aging...

Oh for God’s sake. Today’s one of those days that starts out terrific and, like a boat hitting an unseen sandbar, stops dead in the water. It’s a half-day of school for the kids. They’re so happy playing (oops, my apologies…hanging) with their friends that I’ve got a chunk of time to get things done.... Read more »

So Different...And Yet So Similar

Thumbnail image for 'So Different...And Yet So Similar'
My husband the sailor is fearless on the water. I, on the other hand, am not. He lives for the unexpected wind gusts, the on-the-spot problem solving, and the rails-in-the-water feeling of a boat heeled thisclose to tipping over. I do not. In fact, each one of those situations makes me throw up a little... Read more »

    Christine Wolf

So hey, how's it going? I cover life's ups and downs, but I'm really drawn to the tough, emotional stuff. My perspective covers 24 years of marriage and 18 years of parenting, and while I'm always willing to voice an opinion, it often contradicts my innate desire to please everyone at all times. Such is this crazy life, so I guess all I can do is just write about how I've (usually) kept my head above water. Thanks for dropping by. You know you totally rock, right?
