Darkening skies spread a pall over the city. Southwest winds are warming the air, riffling the surface of the lake in erratic eddies. Dark bare branches flail, stiff and graceless, buffeted by unseasonable rainy gusts. The atmosphere is dolorous, synchronizing perfectly with our gloomy mood as we anticipate the arrival of President Obama a few miles down Lake Shore Drive where he will deliver his farewell speech in the city that molded him; the city, especially this side of the city, that loves him.
