Finding Inspiration in the Victories of Others

Finding Inspiration in the Victories of Others

This evening, I went to Pritzker Pavilion to watch the film Julie & Julia.  Now first things first, if you have not been to the Millennium Park Summer Film Series, you are missing out.  This was week three, and so far so freakin' good!  Week 1 was Blues Brothers, Week 2 - Caddyshack (it was my first time seeing it...I laughed harder than everyone around me), and This week was the aforementioned Julie & Julia.  In addition, this week Talenti was handing out 15,000 pints of ice cream.

That's a lot of freaking ice cream!

Now, I'm a goober, and I have no problem admitting it.  I'm one of those people who can find inspiration in movies...or books...or those little Goalcast videos on Facebook.  I'm a's ok.  I'm over it.  Thus, tonight while watching Julie & Julia I found myself inspired.

If you look back to my last post, you'll see it's been a while since I've blogged.  There are reasons for of them that I started a new vlog, and I've been putting my attention towards that, which is fun.  However, a much bigger reason is that I feel like I've lost my voice.  Tonight, while watching Julie & Julia I had an epiphany.

If you're not familiar with the film, it's about a woman, Julie Powell, whom embarks on an adventure of cooking through the book "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" by Julia Child, and began to blog it.

A couple of things came to me.  First, my voice is simply me.  When I switched my blog over to ChicagoNow, I was so worried about building readership, and being liked, and figuring out interesting things to write about, about my blog being Chicago centric....while watching the film, bit dawned on me: Just be me.

My blogging has always drawn readers because it was honest...and my blog will always be Chicago-centric because I am a definite product of Chicago.  My life, my job, my hobbies, my adventures, my successes and my failures all happen in this sprawling metropolis that we call Chicago.  All I have to do is words will carry their own messages.  They will resonate with whom they need to resonate, and that's that.  Also, I'm so over worrying about SEO bullshit and all that jazz...coming up with the right title, posting at the right time.

Screw that noise.  We're going old school.  I'm gonna blog to blog because that's what I do.  From there, the chips will fall where they may.

Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of our lives.  Let's journey together!
