Hawks smoked, Bickell injured in Colorado

Hawks smoked, Bickell injured in Colorado
This is certainly not the start the Blackhawks wanted to their annual circus trip.  Early on, it looked like the Hawks were going to put the upstart Avs in their place.  An absolutely dominant powerplay for the Hawks had Colorado chasing them around their zone, but an odd bounce off the boards changed the game... Red Light District Mailbag Vol. 1

Red Light District Mailbag Vol. 1
Every now and again, I appeal to the Blackhawks fans in my Twitter universe to stuff my bag with queries.  Here are some of the questions from the Twitter and email machines. Joe from Rockford - “How good can Brandon Saad be?  He’s been on of the best and most consistent Hawks all season long.”... Read more »

Blackhawks roster set for opening night

Blackhawks roster set for opening night
While the Blackhawks haven’t announced it officially, their opening night roster appears to be set.  The last remaining piece was the battle for the all important 8th d-man spot between Mike Kostka and Ryan Stanton.  Stanton was claimed off waivers by Vancouver today, so I think it’s safe to say that Kostka won the job.... Blackhawks reduce roster to 24, demote Pirri

Blackhawks reduce roster to 24, demote Pirri
When training camp opened for the Blackhawks earlier this month, Brandon Pirri was the favorite for the ever elusive second line center job.  Now, everyone’s offseason favorite has become a camp casualty. Saturday night, the Blackhawks set their roster to 24, and Pirri was one of the cuts.  Jeremy Morin and Antti Raanta were the... Read more »

10 players to watch this Blackhawks pre-season

Teuvo Teravainen - Teravainen was the Blackhawks 1st round pick (18th overall) in the 2012 draft. While the Hawks have already decided that the young forward will spend this season in Finland, he's the Hawks top and most elite prospect. Patrick Kane compared Teravainen to himself, while Scotty Bowman compared him to Igor Larianov. He's an electrifying player with incredible hands and vision. A year in Finland will help him add a little size, which he will need before taking part in an 82 game + NHL season. He'll be here soon enough...but take an early look while you can.
With the Chicago Blackhawks making their televised preseason debut Thursday night, many fans will be getting their first glimpse of the team.  While many of the core pieces remain intact, there three or four starting roster spots available.  These young Blackhawks have a chance to make the roster this season. Thanks to blackhawks.nhl.com and NHLPA.com... Read more »

Red Light District Summer Mailbag Vol. 1

Red Light District Summer Mailbag Vol. 1
Since it’s summer, and nothing is really happening in Blackhawk land, I figured it was time for this summer’s first mail bag (not to be confused with male bag.  That’s a different blog). Readers of this blog, Twitter followers, and Facebook people chimed in with their queries.  Here’s what they had to ask. Sarcastic Mike... Read more »

Blackhawks' roster nearly set after busy weekend for Bowman

Blackhawks' roster nearly set after busy weekend for Bowman
As soon as the Blackhawks hoisted the Stanley Cup in Boston, you know changes were coming…and quickly.  It only took six days for Stan Bowman to conduct a draft, re-sign Bryan Bickell, and trade Dave Bolland and Michael Frolik.  Five days later, former Hawks Viktor Stalberg and Ray Emery have new homes (Nashville and Philadephia,... Red Wings take series lead with 3-1 win over Hawks

Red Wings take series lead with 3-1 win over Hawks
Over the next 48 hours, you, the Blackhawk fan, are going to hear a number of common themes.  Desire, hustle, TWTW, and intimidation.  These were the words infecting my Twitter feed like a zombie-fied strain of the the Bird Flu sprinkled with a little SARS and Mad Cow.  None of these narratives are accurate or...
