With the arrival of the NHL playoffs comes roster expansion. With that in mind, the Blackhawks have recalled 9 players from the Rockford Ice Hogs. Forwards Brandon Pirri, Ben Smith, Jeremy Morin, and Jimmy Hayes, defensemen Ryan Stanton, Adam Clendening, Shawn Lalonde, and Steve Montador, and goaltender Henrik Karlsson.
While the Blackhawks are expected to use their regular lineup Friday vs Calgary, head coach Joel Quenneville hinted at the fact that the Hawks will be resting some players for Saturday in St. Louis. Goaltender Carter Hutton will likely start in goal, while Stanton should get a look on the blue line. In fact, it would shock me if most, if not all of the recalled players suit up for Saturday's game. There is no use in getting Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane or any other core member of the roster injured in a meaningless game, especially when the opponent is the often thuggish St. Louis Blues.
Ray Emery and David Bolland will miss the last two games of the regular season, but are expected to be ready to go for the playoffs. The post season begins Tuesday, but it's looking like the Hawks will start their playoff series Wednesday vs Detroit, Minnesota or Columbus.
