According to a tweet from Sportsnet's John Shannon, the NHL is expected to announce the official cancellation of the remainder of the NHL Preseason.
While this shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, it's just another punch to the gut of the few hockey fans still holding out hope for a full season. Even the most optimistic handicappers don't think a game will be played until Thanksgiving. Many...too many for my liking...believe there may not be a season at all.
There is never a good time for a lockout in any sport, but for the NHL, this is happening at the worst possible time. With their marquee franchises (Chicago, New York, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles) at the top of their games, the league should be thriving. Instead, the NHL has again made itself a punchline.
