Despite Byfuglien's heroics, Hawks offense needs a boost

Hawks win!  Hawks win!  Awesome!  Big Buff looked shot out of a cannon.  Did he have dinner reservations or something?  Where has THAT Dustin Byfuglien been for the last...umm...ever?  He just decided to end the game, and he did!

That's a big, character win for the Hawks, but let's not pretend everything is hunky dory.  For the 4th time in 5 games, the Blackhawks were held to 2 goals or less.

Yeah...Henrik Lundqvist played out of his mind for the Rangers, but how many of the Hawks 41 (!) shots on goal were quality chances?  One or two?  There is something out of tune with the offense.  It's just misfiring.  I'm certain the Hawks will work themselves out of it. Here are a few things I think the Hawks can do to speed up the process.  Scroll through my handy dandy photo gallery below!

  • Hmmm, do we have a problem here or don't we? Will it work itself out, hopefully? Too many players are playing the game for the sole purpose of making a highlight video. We are in the process of building some ego monsters that will eventually generate more self fulfilling play which translates into less goals! Its more difficult to play against 5 players playing together than to focus on the player that holds the puck too long and thats looking for that highlight move. Case in point, watch Steeger on the 2nd line. The guy is starving for notoriety. Hes a hec of a player when he keeps it simple. Same with Sharp, but when they start trying to compete for headlines and interviews, we got problems. Another point about DB. You will live to hate seeing him in another uniform. He has shown his ability this season and last, consistancy is the biggest problem in the NHL, look at some of the best players up and down the NHL and you will see inconsitent play. The job of the coaching staff is to take a prize like him and figure out how to get him show us his multi-talents more often. Look at the other players that teams gave up on for inconsistent play, and see them now. The list of ex-Hawks is way too long to list. Lets keep these guys humble and respectful of the game, and hopefully the fanfare hoopla and media won't ruin this team.

  • The lines are being juggled for Sunday.

I know Kane & Hossa both play the same side, but I'd like to see them together to take advantage of Kane's passing and Hossa's shooting.

Hopefully, Sunday's lineup mix will help spark the team. I think Bickell and maybe even Dowell are needed. If there's cap space to do it, I'd sit Kopecky and Fraser for a bit and let those two do the dirty work on a couple of lines.
