Despite sluggish weekend, Blackhawks' circus trip a complete success

The reality of a road trip can be tough to swallow.  A few days ago, the Hawks were flying high, scoring goals at an insane clip, and wiping out their opponents.  Well, after what must have been a gluttonous Thanksgiving dinner, the Hawks looked like a different team Friday and Saturday.

Friday's 3-0 loss to the Anaheim Ducks was almost predictable.  After annihilating the San Jose Sharks Wednesday night, a let down was almost inevitable.

Anaheim got an early lead and never looked back.  Jean-Sebastien Giguere stood on his head, and the Ducks took 2 points from the Hawks.

Saturday in Los Angeles was more of the same.  The Hawks did play better, but still seemed a step slow or behind.  They weren't as sharp as they had been early in the 6 game trip.

Is road weariness an excuse?  Absolutely.  Is it valid?  Probably.

The Hawks could have played much better in both games, but I find it hard to question the effort.  They haven't quit all year long, and I don't think apathy was an issue.  Ten days on the road takes it out of even the most traveled.  The Hawks are no exception.

Taking 9 of 12 points is a great accomplishment.  To me, they are still the best team in the league, and should bounce right back next week, when they finally return to the United Center.
