People always ask me "what's going on this weekend?" because they know I know. I'm the queen of the Red Cup Adventure. Here's my rundown of the hottest events for Black Chicago this weekend August 10-12:
Friday, August 10th
-DJ Mark Fulla Flavor will referee a soul battle between Tribe Called Quest vs. DeLa Soul at the Beauty Bar. Free with RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. 1444 W. Chicago Ave, 10pm-2am.
-It's a House Music Explosion. Get lost in the mesmerizing sounds provided by DJ Mike Dunn and Chris Underwood. This event is for mature audiences that enjoy “Classic House Music” as well as “Rhythmic Beats” that causes your body to move all by itself! COME AND GET YOUR GROOVE ON! Reggie's 2109 S. State Street, Doors open at 9:00pm, 18+$10.

Saturday, August 11th
-Chicago Defender's Charities Bud Billiken Day Parade. This is the 83rd year of this wonderful back to school tradition. The parade route starts on 35th and King and ends with festivities in Washington Park. TI is the parade marshall. Come celebrate our children and great city. If you can't come out, watch it live on Channel 7 and 9. 10am-6pm. Free.
-Chicago Westside Music Festival's Gospel Music Celebration and Back to School Event. A FREE day of food, family, fun, and festivities. Hosted by Tim White and Buster Woods. Featuring the St. Mark Fine Arts Ministry, Destiny Youth Choir, Shawn Cephus, New St. Matthews, Eve, Marco the Poet, Tim White, Turner Sisters, G3, Dexter & Zion Movement. Columbus Park Bowling Green (corner of Jackson and Menard), starts at 12noon.
-Yanni Brown author of "Making Love Better Begins Within" presents "DARE TO LOVE YOU" workshop and book signing. Azizi Bookstore, 258 Lincoln Mall Drive in Matteson, 2pm. Free.
-Art Di Gras VII at Gallery Guichard. This Saturday after The Bud Billiken Parade: Experience a Bronzeville tradition in it's 7th year! An All White Affair! Food, Drinks, Beautiful Art, Fabulous People, and Fun! Admission FREE! 3521 S. King Drive, 2pm-12mid.
-Get your step on amidst the flowers and under the stars. Friends 4 Life present their annual garden stepper's event at the Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 N. Central Park Avenue. 7pm-12mid. Tickets $15 and refreshments will be served.
-The 16th annual Chicago SummerDance series presents free Line Dance lessons by Michele Thomas and live music by DJ Boolumaster, performing Classic House and Disco music. Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park, 601 S. Michigan Ave. 6-9:30pm.
-We Love Soul 2nd Saturdays celebrates the birthday of Hip Hop (August 11, 1973). Featuring DJs: Duane Powell, Joe Kollege, Kwest_on, and Sean Alvarez. Book Club discussion at Karyn's Inner Beauty Center. The topic is "Sugar Blues" by William Dufty. Even if you didn't read the book, you are still welcome to come and learn about the destructive qualities of sugar and the massive amounts that Americans are consuming in extreme quantities each day. The discussion will be lead by author Deanna Burrell. 1901 N. Halsted at 2pm. Easy street parking and free parking in Karyn's lot. Free.
StreetFood Artistry Chicago 2012. Diverse Summertime Chicago Event for Food and Artistic Adventurers. This family-friendly affair includes live entertainment, Chicago art and photography exhibitions, and more. The festival will feature a Food Truck Pavilion, featuring Chicago’s Favorite Food Trucks and Carts; an interactive Circus Experience hosted by CircEsteem will feature strolling performers and interactive stations.
