On Day 29, Dude got sick. He came down with a low-grade fever, complaining that his head and tummy hurt. After a dose of ibuprofen, all he wanted to do was cuddle with us in bed. When he gets sick, he becomes very needy. And how could I say no to my sick baby boy?!
In the morning, Hubby told me how proud of me he was for forgoing my needs and the demands of this challenge to take care of our son. I was a little shocked by this, because he knows that I put the needs of everyone in my family before my own. Always. Sometimes I don’t think my Hubby truly understands the level of sacrifice I make for my family, like all good mamas do.…but that’s a whole other blog.
Last night, Day 30, was much more successful. As I’m sitting at the kitchen island finishing up the previous blog, Hubby comes up from the Man Cave wearing his desert camos from the Air Force.
To say I was shocked is an understatement! I had never, ever seen him in any uniform from his military career, so this sure was a sight. And he knows I’m a HUGE sucker for a man in uniform. Whether it’s dress blues or casual camos, there’s something about the sight of a man in uniform that sends shivers down my spine and makes me want to whip my panties off in seconds flat.
But what really sealed the deal for me is when he sheepishly admitted that he couldn’t fully button his jacket or pants completely….something about age and weight gain.
We both bust out laughing. I think we both laughed until we cried. The whole thing was too damn cute!
He convinced me to shut down my computer and follow him to the bedroom, where he quickly whipped off the camos, complaining about getting too warm and uncomfortable after just 5 minutes. And this coming from a man who survived Desert Storm.
I had to laugh again, yet it made me fully realize that men clearly feel the changes of age like us women do.
The next hour was amazing. I asked him to hold me. We talked. We laughed. We shared stories. We allowed ourselves time for each other.
This was nice. This was better than sex. This was us communicating like a devoted husband and wife should.
I believe this challenge has been successful.
