Homemade Pizza

Homemade Pizza

Yesterday I thought I would make pizza, but after running a bunch of errands the last thing I wanted to do was stand over the counter and prep vegetables for it. After a trip out to the softball fields today and finding out my game was not until tomorrow I decided to go home and make the pizza. The BEST decision ever! I had gotten my box from Door To Door Organics with some fresh zucchini and green peppers and thought that would be awesome on pizza. Store bought dough, some meat and cheese and I was in heaven. Two slices later I sit here and wonder what I would do if it wasn't for my dad telling me that I would have to learn how to cook if I wanted to find a man. Personally I think I learned to cook to make people happy and I am sticking with that.

What you will need for the pizza:
1 package of store bought dough (I used the white bread dough from Trade Joe's)
1 small zucchini sliced thinly
1 small green pepper thinly sliced and then minced
1/2 vadalia onion thinly sliced
1 Italian sausage link browned and crumbled
12 sandwich size pepperoni slices minced
1-2 tablespoons pizza sauce (I used the Trader Joe's brand)
1/2 cup shredded cheese (I used the Quattro Cheese Bland from Trader Joe's)

First thing you want to do is cook the Italian sausage. Use the oil that has cooked off the sausage and 1 tablespoon of olive oil and caramelize the onions. Take the dough that you bought (or made if you are an ambitious Susie Homemaker), prepare as directed and place onto your baking sheet and spread the pizza sauce on the dough. You can use more sauce if you like, I just prefer a light layer to give some flavor but not take away from the other ingredients. Sprinkle the minced green peppers, sausage, caramelized onions and pepperoni. Layer with the slices of zucchini and top with the cheese. Bake at 350 for about 20-30 minutes or until the cheese turns a golden brown color. Cut as you'd like and serve.
