I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and found a great way to remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The football games were great, the Polar Vortex gave us a breather, and my homies Ice Cube and Kevin Hart broke the box office record with the movie “Ride Along”.
That movie was funny. “Pelican Bay on all you ----“ Go see it if you have not had the chance!
Long holidays remind me of being in some type of school. I remember looking forward to the days off so that I could play Atari or Intellivision (remember Intellivision?).
These kids are spoiled with their real-life looking athletes in their games man. I remember having to fake out red dots to score a touchdown. Even better than that having to turn on a metal football sheet that had the players move toward a magnet making a noise like you were electrically churning butter.
What the holidays really allowed me to enjoy was having another day to play tackle football with the neighborhood kids instead of going back to Catholic school. Hell I just remember enjoying watching Ray Rayner, and Bozo’s Circus on channel 9. Then in the afternoon watching Spectra Man, The Jackson 5 cartoon, Speed Racer, and Captain CAAAAAAAAVE MAAAAAAAAAAN!.
That was a great day off of school!
THE EXTRA DAYS OFF ALSO USED TO TURN INTO PARTIES ON SUNDAYS!
I really used to love the house parties that happened in and around the Chicago-land areas during holidays. All of the COKE-TEEN and BISMARK HOTEL parties that used to have Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, CeCe Peniston, and Liz Torrez, as performers while featuring the main suspects Farley, Frankie Knuckles, Julian Jumpin Perez, Mike Dunn and Bad Boy Bill.
My super favorite parties used to be held at Medusa’s for one reason and one reason only; LIL LOUIS!
If you wanted to hear some straight up Chicago tracks that had men sliding across the floor and half naked women sweating like there was no tomorrow you had to go to Medusa’s.
I did a lot of thinking about Chicago House Music, Lil Louis and Medusa’s this weekend. My boy DJ CLAY also made a ridiculous house mix and Daniell Spencer had Mike Dunn at Urban Myth! The immediacy of those events happening during the same week have, at last, pushed DJ FINK out of retirement…again.
IF YOU LOVE THE HOUSE MUSIC AND DEEP HOUSE MUSIC TRAXX THAT LIL LOUIS USED TO PROVIDE I HAVE A PRESENT FOR YOU IN THIS BLOG!
I made a digital tribute mix-tape to LIL LOUIS. Click on the link and enjoy!
A little Chicago love on the extended holiday for my readers.
JUST MY THOUGHTS AND MUSIC MAN…
