Finally! SUMMER has arrived! Before we have fun, I’ve got some work to get done!
It was a long cold winter! We skipped spring and went right into summer! This is my favorite time of year to be in town when many families are at their lake house, meantime Mayberry (Hinsdale) is a bit more peaceful and laid back, there’s plenty of parking, it’s much easier to get a dinner reservation at my favorite hot new restaurant Harry and Eddie's, there are no soccer moms racing up and down the street trying to get their kids to school or practice on time, it’s easier to get an appointment at Zazu hair salon while most benefits and fundraisers are on summer break, the line at Starbucks is much shorter, there are so many great sales in town and more preppy dresses to choose from, there’s that big party in the park thingy every Thursday evening where kids can cut loose while parents sip boozy drinks in adult sippy cups and get their groove on listening to some very cool bands. Lots of fun stuff!
We will be catching up with friends at the lake soon enough but first we got some work to get done such as home improvements, etc...but most importantly, I am spending the early part of this summer catching up on doc visits that I’ve put off because like many moms, I’ve always put my kids first and now I need to get caught up on my stuff.
First doc appointments on my list are routine general exams/tests that I’ve put off and last but not least, I am going to get some consults for Botox, fillers, microblading and yep, cosmetic surgery! Let’s get this straight out in the open here, I’m not trying to keep up with the Real Housewives of “Whatever” or keeping up with the Kardashians, this is just something I want to explore and learn more about because many women my age are getting “work” done and I am seeing some amazing results. I might want to ride that same wave.
Let’s face it, women have always wanted to look youthful, this is nothing new. Historians can trace our use of beauty products and cosmetics back to 4,000 BC. What I find interesting today is how so many women don’t want to give away their beauty secrets. When I see someone come back from a month long hiatus; “OMG! Your face! You look amazing” and they’re like “oh, I’m just tan, I’ve been on vacation”. Come on! Why not let the cat out of the bag? What’s the big deal? It’s refreshing when I finally do find someone who is willing to open up and talk about a cosmetic procedure they had done and share the good, the bad and the ugly. When women support each other, instead of competing against each other, it brings a unity and strength like no other. After all, this isn’t a beauty competition. I really don’t have any problem sharing beauty secrets but I’m still searching for them. Yes, I know, the old cliche beauty comes from within, yes, I agree, but there’s nothing shameful about wanting to look a bit fresher if you can afford it.
One last thing, when I told my husband that I wanted to get some “work” done, he said “you can do what ever you want, it’s your decision but I don’t get it?” I ran to the bathroom washed off all my makeup came back and stood in front of him and yelled “look at my eyes! Look at my tired saggy eyes! How do you not get it??” He said, “you’re just getting older, you look good to me”.
