Long before the One Winnetka project (Developer David Trandel, Architect Lucien Lagrange) got the go ahead from the Village board, I enjoyed visiting Winnetka, and now there’s even more to like.
Yes, the Winnetka Music Festival www.winnetkamusicfestival.com is expected to be one of the top neighborhood fests of the entire Summer! There will be multiple music stages with a dozen indie bands across a wide range of genres, craft beer from Deschutes Brewery and special wine offerings, and street musicians along with a family stage for kid-friendly bands and children’s activities.
The headliner on Saturday at 8PM will be the famous indie rock band Wild Belle! The band is led by brother and sister Elliot and Natalie Bergman, members of Chicago’s well-known Heche family. Of special note is that Val Haller of Valslist www.valslist.com programmed the entertainment so you know it will be good!
And just up Green Bay Road in the beautiful setting of Hubbard Woods Park is the North Shore Art League’s “Art in the Village”, Winnetka’s fine art fair. Over 70 artists from around the entire country will be displaying their work in this national-quality, juried show. This weekend is Winnetka’s time to shine!
I have mentioned the Helmut Jahn building, 1000M, that will break ground at 1000 South Michigan in early 2018. My partner Lucien Lagrange was one of the first to recognize the potential for the half mile long stretch of real estate between the Chicago Hilton and Roosevelt Road.
Though the developer ultimately chose Jahn’s classy design, Lucien was there from the beginning, pushing for them to build in that unappreciated location, sketching his ideas out during lunch meetings to help the developers envision how the building would stand out uniquely as shown above. For my part, I have emails from three years ago advocating that there should be a new “brand name” for the area between Millennium Park and the South Loop. Maybe the developers and/or the City will come up with something soon!
Have a great Summer!
