Along with the nice weather and beautiful sunshine on our beautiful City comes the season of Charity and Benefit events. It’s great to see everyone come out from their Winter hibernation and support so many worthy causes!
My friend Lucien Lagrange and I attended the Chicago Architecture Foundation Annual Gala at the beautiful Radisson Blu Aqua Hotel on Friday April 13. How appropriate that the CAF Gala would be held at the striking Aqua building, designed by the award winning Jeanne Gang! Over 600 people, a combination of developers, financiers, and supporters of Chicago architecture, came to support the CAF, with proceeds helping their programs such as Open House Chicago and Neighborhood Voices!
One of the honorees and also Host Sponsor was Joel Carlins of the Magellan Group. It was great to see him be honored by the Architecture Foundation and to think back to one of his earlier projects that had a major impact on me, namely 55 W. Delaware, also called the Park Newberry. Joel’s group took what used to be an old Salvation Army building and had the vision to develop it into the grand building we see today. I liked it so much I even lived there for several years! Another dear friend of mine, the late Michael Morrison, then with Hopkins and Sutter, was also instrumental in the development.
Another admirable group with an upcoming event is the Ryan Licht Sang Bipolar Foundation. They are having an important luncheon and briefing at the Casino Club on May 2. The Foundation is dedicated to promoting understanding of this terrible affliction and also to fund research into an early-detection test so that the huge number of children affected by Bipolarism can receive the assistance they need. If undetected, bipolarism can lead to chemical dependency and even suicide as children and adolescents search for relief from the strong effects of the disease.
Talk about a historical Chicago event! On Friday, April 20, supporters of Children’s Memorial Hospital will be treated to a special Preview of the new Ann and Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. Though the grand opening is not for another 6 weeks, attendees will be treated to a special tour of the new Hospital, personally hosted by Ann Lurie, have a chance to meet guest host Sarah Jessica Parker, and enjoy listening to the fabulous music of Harry Connick, Jr!
I am so excited for my friend Heather Morrison, one of the architects who designed the new hospital building, shown above. She must be so happy to see her work come to fruition and begin to offer a new, state-of-the-art facility for children and their families to come to and receive the very best in medical care.
Well, the Chicago Real Estate market continues to improve and recover! I have not seen so many people coming through my Open Houses for a long time, and I am so grateful for those clients who have trusted me to market their beautiful homes! A recent new listing is shown above, namely 210 East Walton Unit D, a beautiful duplex home with an amazing roofdeck and a grand location!
Go Sox, and C’mon Cubs Get With It!!
