What a busy weekend! River North was hopping for the first weekend in October. How could you go wrong with the Antiques fair at the Merchandise Mart. In some ways the Merchandise Mart is the 'Grande Dame' and anchor of River North, an area which continues to thrive. Even as the attention is sometimes drawn away as other neighborhoods heat up from time to time and catch the public's eye, River North continues to attract with its many beautiful developments, restaurants, and amenities.
For example, in the excitement over new restaurants that start up in Chicago it is important to not forget the great restaurants of River North that have survived by providing great food and fun atmosphere for years and years. Of course there is always Gene and Georgetti's, but let's not forget that Lettuce Entertain You hot spots Scoozi and Nacional 27 are still wonderful places to go. Who can resist that hot Salsa dancing that goes on when Nacional 27 instantly transforms itself on Saturday nights from being a great dining spot to being a thrilling Latin Dance club like something out of Havana in the '50s!
Besides the fact that one of my long time clients is Vice Chairman of Lettuce Entertain You no one can deny that these two places continue to rank highly when it comes to dining out in style!
River North is also famous for some of the most elegant Real Estate to be found in Chicago. Besides the numerous high rises that have sprung up along Kingsbury, including several buildings designed by the renowned Lucien Lagrange, who can fail to be impressed by the luxurious homes of Kingsbury Estates!
I was personally involved in the development of this high end neighborhood, and I also have many clients at nearby developments such as Tuxedo Park and the beautiful loft units at 420 West Ontario.
When you talk about the multiple amenities of River North, who can deny the ongoing excellence of Chicago's "Country Club-in-the-City", namely the East Bank Club - President Obama's favorite gym in all of Chicago! Sure, it has been around for a while, but the EBC is constantly renewing itself, updating the huge workout rooms and adding new facilities as new forms of recreation and exercise catch the attention of the public. Just think about it, the foresight to place such a huge building so close to downtown and the Loop was truly visionary, and it will continue to draw crowds for years to come.
Finally, if you missed the wonderful Cocktails and Couture event for the Joffrey Ballet that was recently held at the W Chicago City Center you should truly be ashamed. Where else can you see the beautiful dancers of the Joffrey 'getting down' with the rest of us normal folks!
The event has become a mainstay in fundraising for Chicago's renowned ballet company, and I was honored to serve on the committee that helped promote this exciting event. Kudos to the magnificent co-chairs who made it all happen, Kristina McGrath and Marci Holzer, and thanks to the numerous friends of the Joffrey who covered the event, including CS Magazine, Chicago NBC 5, Michigan Avenue Magazine, Crain's Chicago Business, and of course the founding co-chairs of the event, the Joffrey's very own Candace Jordan and Helen Hall Melchior!
