A City Called "China's Chicago" and Autumn Events Update

Did you know there is a city in China with a population of 32 million people?  This month's Foreign Policy magazine highlights this amazing city.  It is the rapidly growing metropolis of Chongqing, which is proud of its nickname - "China's Chicago"!

Like Chicago, it is in the central part of the country.  Like Chicago, there are architecturally significant buildings and skyscrapers galore.  Like Chicago, Chongqing is located on a river (the Yangtze) with a large lake nearby (the ever-growing reservoir backing up behind the amazing Three Gorges dam project.  And finally, like Chicago, Chongqing has a powerful Mayor who takes great pride in his city and rules with a great deal of power.

Take a look at this very interesting magazine, 'Foreign Policy'.  I have taken more interest in foreign affairs since Coldwell Banker's international presence is growing, and I have been honored to have clients with prominent governmental positions who have come to Chicago to represent their countries from the Middle East and Europe, among others.

I am so excited about the news that Fred Eychaner, one of Chicago's most esteemed cultural leaders, has been appointed by President Obama to be a General Trustee of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Eychaner currently serves as Chairman of the Joffrey Ballet and is also a life trustee of the Art Institute of Chicago.

I am grateful to have been invited to two other important events in the Chicago cultural world for the Fall season.  As a member of the LuxeHome Top 25 luxury real estate brokers I was invited to the International Antiques Fair kickoff event next week which will benefit the Friends of Prentiss Hospital.  The Fair will take place at the Merchandise Mart and will present "an Eclectic Mix of Urban Antiques".

Also, I was invited by Dr. Mary and Joseph Tyree and Sheryl Dwyer of Van Cleef and Arpels to attend the kickoff reception for the upcoming Chicago Children's Museum "Be a Kid Again" gala.  It will be a wonderful event and I look forward to supporting the worthy cause behind it.

Real Estate Update:
The market for High End properties in Chicago continues to make a come back.  There is more activity recently than what we have seen for some time.  Both in terms of more sellers coming out to list their homes as well as buyers getting more active the energy is coming back!  I have sold two high end properties recently and the number of showings at my listings is way up.  Keep your fingers crossed, we may be emerging from the long downturn!
