Support your kid's dreams though they are not your own

Support your kid's dreams though they are not your own
Gymnist Gabby Douglas, two-time gold medalist. She did her nation and her parents proud.

Raising Hell...

Is when  you refuse to support, accept or at least respect the dreams and aspirations of your children.

Raising Them Well...

Is when you do.

Don't force your own dreams down your kid's throats. If you've never had a dream, don't diss them because they do.  Sometimes our kids' aspirations seem so far-fetched, that we can't conceive the possibilities.  This is especially true in minority families.  Now is the time to dispel these inhibiting notions. If what they want is so "out there" that you can't see it, let them guide you through their vision.  Perhaps you're unfamiliar with their choice, or don't approve. Trust them, support them, have faith.  You may be surprised beyond your wildest dreams. Just ask Gabby's Mom.

I pursued a satisfying career in the advertising industry, served as a volunteer mentor and parent educator at my two (now grown up) sons' schools and have actually stayed happily married for over a quarter of a century. However, my most gratifying achievement was raising my sons well. I'm not saying there wasn't a little bit of hell raising going on, but you live and learn. Now I'm passing the knowledge on to you. My goal is to turn these nuggets of wisdom into reference books for parents.
