What do I have in common with Grace Kelly and Taylor Swift? Along with being glamorous blondes, we all have a passion for things feline…we are crazy cat ladies. Now, I’m the first to admit that I’m a crazy cat lady and proud of it. That’s why I’m excited to find out about a new book – Cat Lady Chic – a book featuring 80 iconic women with their cats.
To much of the world, the term cat lady – with or without the crazy attached – has a negative connotation of a dowdy older lady covered in cat fur. For author Diane Lovejoy, she had no idea of the stereotype until she wrote The Cat Lady Chronicles two years ago and hit the road to promote her book.
Lovejoy – a Texas business professional with a flair for fashion who is also owned by 10 cats – decided to diffuse the stereotype of cat lady in her next book. Cat Lady Chic has photos of some of the more famous women of the last century – from Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren to Lana Del Rey and Keira Knightley. Her Facebook page takes it a step further highlighting chic cat items (or cat print items).
Lovejoy will be in Chicago on Thursday at the Women and Children First bookstore to promote her book and Tree House Humane Society – Chicago’s very own special place for cat ladies. Now, I can go back to thinking I belong in the same sentence with Grace Kelly…at least is was right on two fronts we both love our cats and we’re both blond.
Note: If you want to attend the event Thursday night, you need to get your name on the list before the end of day Monday the 17th at email@example.com. Stop by for a more glamorous view of cat ladies – moderated by Jenny Schlueter at Tree House.
