It’s Fourth of July week and before I go hide under the bed from the loud explosions, I thought I’d take over the Chicago pet events blog for the week. It’s easy because there are just two events. And, even though I’m not too fond of shelters, both events benefit shelters that I know all about from personal experience – Tree House Humane Society and Heartland Animal Shelter.
Our late sister kitty Scarlett (and the Late Great Rhett the Wonder Cat) were adopted from Tree House (see her picture on the top of the blog) and Max and I were rescued from death row by Heartland Animal Shelter.

Chicago – The Dog Days of Summer is going to the cats this week as the Chicago Canine Concierge hosts Tree House Humane Society. There will be some cool vendors, food, donation bar, awesome raffle prizes and off leash doggy fun. The party rolls from 6 to 9 at Chicago Party Animals, 1133 West Fulton Market.
Saturday, July 5
Glenview – Swing out to Fields Jeep/Dodge/Ram for their Saturday Adopt-A-Pet event featuring the cool animals up for adoption from Heartland Animal Shelter* in Northbrook. Come out and meet some great adoptable pets and also learn more about this no-kill shelter. Fields is at 2800 Patriot Drive and the event is from 11 am until 3 pm.
* Heartland is a cool place, but I don’t want to go back anytime soon. Nothing personal, it’s a great shelter, but I landed in a great forever home. I’m now a very spoiled North Shore kitty and finally have the staff trained after 7 years…I’m not going back. The lap is mine, the food bowl is mine and I know where all the treats are hidden. Now, back to my catnap.
