Chicago pet events for the first weekend in May

It's May and hopefully that means our long awaited spring is finally here. It would be good to start this weekend because there are plenty of outside events supporting pet rescue from Bark in the Park to Pet Expos and garage sales. Don't forget the pancake breakfast and Piano for Pooches. All of these activities are Chicago pet events planned this weekend.

Thursday, May 1

Naperville – New York Times bestselling author Beth Hoffman will be at the Anderson Book Store at 123 West Jefferson to promote her book Looking for Me. She is generously donated $10 of each book sold to the Naperville Humane Society. The event starts at 7 and includes a book reading and Q&A.

Saturday, May 3

Crown Point, Ind. – The 7th Annual Lake County Pet Expo will be held at the Lake County Fairgrounds at 889 South Court Street from 8 to 3 pm. There will be a 9K fun walk, pet vendors and lots of great adoptable pets.

Bark in the Park

Chicago – The Anti-Cruelty Society’s 20th Annual Bark in the Park will start at 9 at Montrose Harbor. There is a 5K walk/run, vendors and lots of fun pet activities and rescue pets looking for homes. Tickets for adults are $35 and kids from 3 to 13 are $15.

Bloomingdale – Young at Heart Pet Rescue holds their annual garage sale from 9 to 4 at 306 Orchard Lane. Donations may be dropped off at that location until Saturday. Proceeds benefit the senior pets brought in by the rescue. No large furniture, appliances or clothes.

Cat Garudians_optLombard – Cat Guardians will hold their 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 to 11:30 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Tickets are $10 and include pancakes, eggs, fruit, sausages, juice and coffee. Make your reservations at (630) 543-3395.

Mokena – Homeless Hounds Rescue holds their Piano for Pooches at 191 South from 9 to 1 am. Enjoy pizza, pasta, salad and an open bar from 8 to midnight. The dueling pianos gear up at 9. Tickets are $50 per person.

Sunday, May 4

Ingleside - Spend the day getting some fresh air with your dog while enjoying some of the great activities at Camp Dogwood. This one day Specialty camp will be a combination of the Whole Dog Day Camp and the Senior Dog Day Camp. Registration is open through the first. Learn more online and on Facebook.

There is a $5 suggested donation at the door – check out great stuff and rescue gear and a donation Bloody Mary Bar.
