Chicago pet events the first week of March

Is it spring yet? Not quite, but there are a lot of great Chicago pet events on tap this week that will help animals in need while warming you up for spring. I do have to say - although it's not a contest - the cat events this week really rock! So, raise one for Fat Cat Tuesday, toast the Cat Diaries, join a Yappy Hour and sign on for brunch and a wine tasting for the Court Case Dogs. Last, but not least, the Shelter Shiver finally hits Lake Michigan - may the weather be ever in their favor. Here's a look.

Tuesday, March 4

Chicago – How can you tell that spring is just around the corner? It’s time for Fat Cat Tuesday benefitting Tree House Humane Society from 6 to 8 p.m. at Trader Todd’s at 3215 North Sheffield. Tickets are just $15 in advance ($20 at the door) and include three drink tickets for select drinks – including Trader Todd’s Hurricane – and an awesome vegan buffet. Free beads, great raffles and lots of fun. Trader Todd’s is donating 100 percent of the proceeds to Tree House’s spay/neuter program.

Chicago – This is one of the coolest Chicago pet events I’ve seen in awhile – The Cat Diaries. This fun event is an evening of storytelling, reading and comedy themed on cats (and other animals) and will benefit Harmony House for Cats. Tickets for the mixed media event will be $20 in advance and $30 at the door and includes a Haymarket Brew or wine and raffle entry. The Cat Diaries will be at the Haymarket Pub and Brewery at 737 West Randolph in Chicago.

If you join the group at the party, your entry fee will be credited toward your $30 annual membership fee. Well-behaved pets are welcome.

When you eat at the Jason's Deli between 6 and 8, drop your receipt in the groupraise donation box and 15 percent of your purchase price will be donated to the group. See details here and sign up to attend as well. Jason's is at 2060 York Road.

Gurnee – It must bee the weekend for Yappy Hours. This one is at Central Bark at 3880 Grove from 4 to 7 and benefits WAGS – Waukegan Animals Getting Saved. Cool vendors will be on hand for some shopping and of course your pups can run and play during the event.

Sunday, March 9

Chicago – It’s finally time for the Shelter Shiver (see original story). This event was scheduled for January and was postponed when the beach froze over. Join Alive Rescue at North Avenue Beach starting at $10 and you can jump in, wade in or skip the freezing part and meet the crew at Joe’s Bar afterwards. Entry fee is $25 and you can also set up a fundraising page too.

    Raining Cats and Dogs

I am a crazy cat lady and puppy mill warrior that blogs to advocate and educate about pet issues. In American animal controls, millions of pets are abandoned each year and an estimated 4 million die just because there are not enough homes. It truly seems like it’s Raining Cats and Dogs.
