7 tips to enjoy the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo

If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend, head out to the Arlington Race Track for the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo. This annual event has a little something for pet lovers of all ages - from rescues to great products to fun vendors and talented pets, you should find something of interest. Here are a few tips to help you hit the areas that are of most interest to you.

2 for 1 or discount coupons – Friday night from 5 to 9 p.m. is a great time to take the family because it's the 2 for 1 special  – two people get in for the price of one. The show is less crowded than Saturday, giving you a little more space to see everything. If Friday doesn’t work, check out the Dollar off coupon online. Several rescues are also offering the coupon and they get a portion of the proceeds, if you download their coupon.

The Rock N Roll K9 Performance team will be on hand throughout the show to entertain.

Pick you favorite acts – There are a lot of fun acts from the Rock N Roll K9s to the Exotic Animal Show to my two favorites the St. Petricks Day costume contest and the housecat show. Pick the shows you’d really like to see and get there early for a seat.

Map it out – Also check out where some of your favorite vendors and organizations may be online before you go. Plan on stopping at some booths before you hit your favorite acts and others after while at the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo.

Shop and Learn – There will be plenty of vendors with cool pet products on hand. Stop by and see what is new. While you’re at it, check out booths for other non-profits and educational organizations like The Puppy Mill ProjectHealing Hearts and Paws and Two Million Dogs.

The Chicago English Bulldog Rescue will be on hand with lovable adoptables. Sunflower looks ready for a home.

Adopt and Shop – Many of the Chicago-area pet rescues groups are on hand with their lovable adoptables and their  gear. Check out the pets at the Chicagoland Family Pet Expo or spend time interviewing rescue organizations to see what may be a good fit for you as an adopter or a potential volunteer. It's a great place to get the feel for an organization.

Leave your dog at home – The Chicagoland Family Pet Expo is family-friendly, but not pet-friendly. Leave your pets at home.

Be prepared – Make sure you have your walking shoes and bottle of water to help you through the long haul.

The Chicagoland Family Pet Expo runs from 1 to 9 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Adults are $10 each (two for one admission on Friday evening), kids from 3 to 12 are $5 and kids younger than 3 are free. Parking is $6. Learn more online about the rescues, businesses and cool acts. You may also download a coupon for a dollar off and follow the show on Facebook.

    Raining Cats and Dogs

I am a crazy cat lady and puppy mill warrior that blogs to advocate and educate about pet issues. In American animal controls, millions of pets are abandoned each year and an estimated 4 million die just because there are not enough homes. It truly seems like it’s Raining Cats and Dogs.
