In December, I asked some of my readers and the Chicago rescue community to share their heartwarming stories of rescue. One of the stories that came in featured a dog that we first met in the feature I did this summer about Rehoming Pets on Craigslist or free to good home - Maybe. She was rescued by Be Fido's Friend - BFF - and now has a family. Here's the story of Twinkles' second chance.

Maybe’s fate could have been much different, but fortunately she was rescued just in time. Her previous owner, a young boy, was forced to find a new home for his beloved pup, a young, female, pit mix and so he set out asking strangers to take his beloved pup. She was loved, she was healthy, good-natured, well-mannered, but the kid’s mother didn’t want her around anymore.
When he asked a group of guys if they wanted her, a fight almost broke out about who would take her. Hearing the heated response, a BFF board member’s boyfriend quickly found out what was going on and realized that this dog was in danger of falling into the hands of people with bad intentions.
He took her that moment and she became a BFF dog and would soon be adopted by an adoring couple, Ade and Tina, who renamed her Twinkles, fitting as she is the light of their lives. Attached is a postcard with an update from our happy girl and her family and we wish that every re-homing story had this type of ending - Twinkles' second chance!
You can support Be Fido's Friend at an event on Wednesday by heading to Blackfinn Pub at 65 West Kinzie for a fun happy hour to benefit Be Fido's Friend. Tickets are just $30 per person and that gets you a couple of drinks and one of their signature flatbread pizza's. There will be raffles and it's a great time to learn more about all the really cool things that BFF is up to these days. Advance tickets are available online.
