Willow's happy ending has yet to be written. But, thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers and a litany of supporters, Willow has more than a fighting chance after being left for dead on a cold Chicago street just one week ago.
The severely emaciated pit bull was found near frozen and near death on the South side of the city by Chicago Animal Care and Control after a stranger noticed the abandoned dog and called for help. CACC reached out to the rescue community and Felines & Canines stepped up to save her.
What they found was heartbreaking, yet remarkable. A dog that had been neglected, abandoned and unloved, wanted nothing more than to be loved, caressed and saved. A dog with a will to live and plenty of fight left to give her a chance at that happy ending. Willow was transferred to the Animal Care Center where she has been in critical condition but improving.
At Felines & Canines they report - that she was tired but she's been happy to see them with each visit. They are greeted with a gentle tail wag and sweet kisses to the chin.
"She is an outrageously kind, loving, affectionate, trusting dog who will make a wonderful companion once she has healed," says Kelly Thompson, the organization's development director. "Unfortunately, her blood work wasn't what they expected and she will be getting a transfusion on Monday."
Donations may be made online to help pay for her considerable medical expenses or mail donations to Felines Inc, PO Box 60616, Chicago, 60060. Note that the donations are for Willow's fund.
