Chicago pet events through September 29
Spay and Stay in Lake County holds their fall colony caretakers meeting.

Barkapalooza, Pet Fests, Adoption Jubilees, Big Nights and a Day in Avondale are all fun activities that are slated to help the homeless pets of Chicago. Check out the activities below for Chicago pet events this week.

Wednesday, September 26

Canine Link is hosting a Shelter and Rescue workshop from 6:30 to 830 p.m. to help teach groups how to write great profiles to get pets adopted. This session will work on good visual presentation and great profiles to help potential adopters fall in love with your pet. Register online ($25).

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control host Big Night.

Placing Paws will be at Fields Fiat of Highland Park from 4 to 8 p.m. as they launch the new 500L. What's better than a new car? A new pet to ride along in that care with you. Fields is at 250 Skokie Valley Road.

Friends of Chicago Animal Care and Control (FCACC) hosts their annual gala – Big Night – from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at the Chicago Cultural Center. The event features great food tastings from Chicago’s top chefs, lots of cool raffle and auction items and entertainment. Tickets are $100 in advance and $125 at the door. (See story.)

Saturday, September 28

Spay and Stay hosts it’s fall caretakers workshop for TNR colony caretakers new and old. Learn about Trap-Neuter-Return programs in Lake County to stabilize the feral cat community. The session starts at 10 a.m. at Mundelein High School.

Wiggle Waggle Homemade Organic Dog Bakery will hold a Paw Nation Scary Good Adoption event from 10 to 4 p.m. The event will be at the 477 Building across from the Geneva Egg Harbor Café.

Head to St. Martin’s Episcopal Church for the annual Pet Fair from 10:30 until noon at 1095 Thacker in Des Plaines. There will be a blessing of the animals, dog training, Reiki for Pets, pet first aid demonstrations, the Comfort Dogs and Heartland Animal Shelter.

Get ready for Pug Jam! The Northern Illinois Pug Rescue Association (NIPRA) hosts their Pug Jamboree from11 to 4 p.m. today at Rock Cut State Park in Loves Park. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for kids and Pugs are free. Best kisser contest, costume contest and so much more.

A Day in Avondale is underway today and Harmony House for Cats will be participating for the first time. Stop by the neighborhood for the food, fun and art. Also visit Harmoney House at 2914 North Elston from 1 to 4 p.m. to meet the cats, make your own button, purchase art painted by the cats and cat-themed art and more.

The Fifth Annual Cause for Paws will be at Clark’s Saloon at 37895 North Sheridan Road in Beach Park starting at 4 p.m. The event benefits WAGS (Waukegan Animals Getting Saved) and Fat Cat Rescue. There’s a $5 cover and lots of food, fun, raffles, music and more.

Save-A-Pet hosts their 27th Annual Tuxedo for Tails Auction and dinner from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Westin in Wheeling. Advance tickets are $125 and there are other ticket packages available. Come for the fun auctions, dueling pianos and to help support the animals in need.

West Suburban Humane Society hosts its 20th Annual Barkapalooza.

The West Suburban Humane Society hosts it’s 20th Annual Barkapalooza from 10 to 2 p.m. This fun half day festival celebrating all things dog will be at the Lisle Community Park at 1825 Short Street. Advance registration for the walk is $15 and $20 the day off. Afterwards enjoy the vendors, music and other dog- and family-friendly activities. Register or set up fundraising pages here.

Placing Paws will be holding an adoption event at the Room and Board in Skokie from noon to 4 p.m. Details online.

The Hungry Hound in St. John, Ind. at 8342 Wicker Avenue will host an Adoption Jubilee from noon until 3 p.m. There will be rescues, food, contests, pets and lots of other fun activities.
