It’s a quiet week as summer comes to a close over Labor Day Weekend. There are still some great Chicago pet events – a West Town Pup Crawl, a Dog Days of Summer Art Exhibit, a tennis social and an adoption event. Check out the activities below.
Tuesday, August 27
Just two week’s left to party with your pup at the best outdoor dog party around – the West Town Pup Crawl. Bow Wow Revolution will be at Mahoney’s Pub at 551 North Ogden Avenue from 6 to 9 p.m. The event is sponsored by Big Bark and leashed, friendly dogs are welcome. From 6 to 8 p.m., 15 percent of bar sales go to the rescue. Stop by some of the other local participating bars in West Town that you can also walk over to and enjoy their patios with your pooch as well! Those include Clutch, Matchbox, J.Patricks Pub and Aberdeen Tap.
Friday, August 30
The Dog Days of Summer exhibit is wrapping up at Highwood’s Spectrum Fine Art Gallery with a reception for Orphans of the Storm from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Some adoptable dogs will be onsite and wine and refreshments will be served with 10 percent of proceeds benefiting the rescue.
Saturday, August 31
It's a Dog's Day at Fetch & Play for their annual open house from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. - Lots of fun for pups and peeps with refreshments and treats and cool pools for your pup to cool off in. Fetch and Play is at 1936 West 17th Street - Damen and 17th behind the Warehouse and through the alley.
Whole Foods Market in Northbrook at Willow and Waukegan holds an adoption event from 11 to 3 p.m. with the pets looking for homes from Orphans of the Storm. Dogs, cats and kittens looking for homes will be on hand.
Join Foster 2 Home for an adoption event at Collar and Leash at 1435 North Wells. The event will be from noon until 3 p.m.
What better way to celebrate the long weekend than with a few cold ones at Chicago Party Animals first ever dog-friendly craft beer tasting event! Hops for Homeless Pets will be a three-hour sampling from Chicago area craft brewers with proceeds benefiting PAWS Chicago. Tickets are $30 for people and $10 for dogs and the event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1133 West Fulton Market.
Shop at the Two Bostons - Springbrook - at 2523 West 75th Street in Naperville to help support It's A Pittie Rescue. Between 6 and 8 p.m. 20 percent of all sales will go to the rescue to help them pay the medical bills for Sweet Caroline. Cookies, lemonade and a possible visit by the one and only Sweet Caroline.
Sunday, September 1
Time to hit the courts to support the animals at a tennis social at Tennaqua at 1 Tennaqua in Deerfield. Grab a friend and stop by at 1 p.m. for tennis and lots of fun to support Orphans of the Storm. Tickets are $20 for adults and $5 for teens. There will be a raffle and refreshments.
