Looking for the Purr-fect Paws to add to your family? The West Suburban Humane Society is the purr-fect place to go during the cat days of summer, if you're thinking of adopting a cat or adopting a kitten this summer. This weekend, the Downers Grove shelter will be celebrating the cat days of summer with their Purr-fect Paws Adoption event by offering discounted cat adoptions.

Kirk is a five month old black kitten and Persimmon is a lively 4 month old kitten. Both are looking for homes.

Although many people refer to this time of year as the dog days of summer, it's really the cat days because animal shelters and rescues are overflowing with cats and kittens. There are  many litters of kittens fresh from kitten season and many new cats that have lost their homes for various reasons. Although June is National Adopt a Shelter Cat Month, many groups hold special events in July and August to spur cat adoptions.

Purr-fect Paws hopes to do just that. Adopters will hit the "fishing pond" to "fish" for discounted adoption fees (up to 50 percent off the usual rate). If you'd like to add a second cat, it will be 50 percent off the "fished" discounted fee. Cat adoption fees at the West Suburban Humane Society usually range from $75 to $150 depending on the cat's age.

Purr-fect Paws adoption event will be at the West Suburban Humane Society on Saturday.

Purr-fect Paws runs from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday. Your cat adoption fee covers spay or neuter surgery, microchip, collar with ID tag, complete vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, ear mite check and treatment, FIV testing, temporary cat carrier, goody bag with toys and treats and more. And, there will be refreshments for people too.

If you'd like to check out the cats and kittens with hopes of bringing home a pet that day, get prequalified in advance by contacting the shelter Adoption Desk at 630-960-9600 x 10 or email adoptiondesk@wshs-dg.org.

    Raining Cats and Dogs

I am a crazy cat lady and puppy mill warrior that blogs to advocate and educate about pet issues. In American animal controls, millions of pets are abandoned each year and an estimated 4 million die just because there are not enough homes. It truly seems like it’s Raining Cats & Dogs.
