Chicago pet events: July 22 to July 28

Summer is in full swing and that means there are many great Chicago pet events to help support animal rescue this week. Of course there are the staples like Hambingo, the West Town Pup Crawl, adoption events...and...there are street fairs that include rescue groups. Also, check out a sidewalk sale/BBQ and Ice Cream social, a Kitten Shower and many other events to help animals.

Join Harmony House for Cats at Hamburger Mary's for HamBingo.

Ready for a wild night of Bingo? Join Harmony House for Cats for Hambingo at Hamburger Mary’s at 5400 North Clark Street from 8  to 10. A $15 donation is good for one set of cards (10 games). Lots of good drinks and food available as well. It's a great way to kick off the week of Chicago pet events.

Tuesday, July 23

Grab your dog and head out to another West Town Pup Crawl at the dog-friendly pubs in Chicago’s West Town from 6 to 9 p.m. Stop by Mahoney’s to meet the rescue of the week – K9 4 Keep with special guests Bark Avenue, Liberation Press and The Honest Kitchen. A percentage of drink sales from 6 – 8 benefit the rescue.

Thursday, July 25

Sweet Caroline is a pit bull that was hit by a car. A fund raiser will be held for her Thursday.

BD’s Mongolian Grill on Boughton Road in Bolingbrook will be holding a fundraiser for Sweet Caroline from 5 to 9 p.m. She is a dog that was hit by a car and taken in by It’s A Pittie Rescue. Mention the rescue and $3 of your order will be donated and tips from the night are also going toward her care.

Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28

Stop by the South Suburban Humane Society for a special cat adoption event - Catmus in July. All cat adoption fees are waived this weekend and there will be special gifts for cat adopters. Stop by and experience Catmus at its very best.

Friday, July 26 through Sunday, July 28

Famous Fido Rescue and Adoption Alliance will hold a sidewalk sale at 5430 North Clark Street to benefit the rescue. Stop by from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. to check out home furnishing, books, clothing, music and more.

Join Found Chicago at Parlour on Clark at 6341 North Clark for the Fourth Annual Cocktails for Canines. The $10 donation at the door benefits the pets rescued by Found and there will be drink specials, raffle prizes and tons of fun. The party is from 7 to 10 p.m. with free champaign from 8 to 9 p.m.

Tree House Humane Society is sponsoring a lecture and reading by Veterinarian and animal behaviorist Dr. Vint Virga at Chicago Party Animals from 6 to 8 p.m.. He’s the author of The Soul of All Living Creatures. Chicago Party Animals is at 1133 West Fulton Market.

Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28

Some Chicago pet events are actually part of other events.Stop by the Taste of Lincoln on Lincoln between Fullerton and Wrightwood and check out the various rescues on hand. Found Chicago mans the beer tent from 11:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 11:30 to 10 p.m. on Sunday. Sit, Stay, Read and the Chicago English Bulldog Rescue are just a few of the animal non-profits slated to be on hand.

Many Chicago Pet non-profits will also be at Wicker Park Fest on Milwaukee Avenue from North to Paulina from noon until 10 p.m.

Saturday, July 27

If you don't have a pet or would like to add to your family, checkout a wide variety of Chicago pet events that feature pet adoptions this weekend.

Cats and kittens of all ages are available for adoption at Purr-Fect Paws as South Suburban Humane Society.

It's the Cat Days of Summer at the West Suburban Humane Society in Downers Grove at 1901 West Ogden Avenue and they are overflowing with cats and kittens. From 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. they will be hosting a Purr-fect Paws cat adoption event. Adopters may "fish" for discounted adoption fees of up to 50 percent off. If you adopt a second cat the fees will be 50 percent off the first discount.

Stop by Collar & Leash at 1435 North Wells in Chicago for an adoption event with One Tail at a Time. Meet the adoptable dogs at Chicago’s newest humane pet store from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Alive Rescue will be at Kriser’s at 1638 North Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago for an adoption event from noon until 3 p.m. Meet the adoptable animals looking for forever homes and learn about the mission of Alive Rescue. Also from noon until 3, Alive will be at Moonshine at 1824 West Division in Chicago for an adoption event hosted by Roscoe Village Animal Hosptial. Meet adoptable dogs and the vets from RVAH and 15 percent of the bar tab from 1 to 4 will be donated to Alive.

Ruff Haus Pets will be hosting a special needs cat adoption event from noon until 3 p.m. with FCACC & St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines. Stop by at 4652 North Rockwell Street in Chicago.

A summer Saturday is perfect for a BBQ & Ice Cream Social, especially if it benefits animals in need. Stop by Famous Fido at 5430 North Clark Street from 11 to 7 .m. for music, food and Ice Cream and to check out the pets available for adoption.

Sunday, July 28

Tree House Humane Society will be at Unleashed at 3320 North Western Avenue from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. for an adoption and outreach event. Volunteers will be on hand with adoptable cats and to talk about the work of Tree House.

Kittens from several rescues, including this love from St. Sophia's Forgotten Felines, will benefit from the Kitten Shower.

Finally, it’s been raining kittens since spring and several Chicago-area rescues are joining forces for a Kitten Shower to help care for all the bundles of fluff. The Shower runs from noon until 4 p.m. at 21288 Brown Drive in Frankfort and will benefit CARF, Purrs from the Heart, St. Sophia’s Forgotten Felines, Triple R Pets and Lulu’s Locker Rescue. There will be drinks, appetizers and raffles and dozens of adoptable kittens. Check out the wish list online to see what these groups need to care for their rescues.
